A beautiful Dahlia at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.
Dahlia is a genus of bushy, tuberous, herbaceous perennial plants native to Mexico. A member of the Asteraceae, dicotyledonous plants, related species include the sunflower, daisy, chrysanthemum, and zinnia. There are 42 species of dahlia, with hybrids commonly grown as garden plants. Flower forms are variable, with one head per stem; these can be as small as 5 cm diameter or up to 30 cm. This great variety results from dahlias being octoploids—that is, they have eight sets of homologous chromosomes, whereas most plants have only two. In addition, dahlias also contain many transposons—genetic pieces that move from place to place upon an allele—which contributes to their manifesting such great diversity-Wikipedia.
Nature, Landscape, and Portrait photographer/artist serving Colora, MD. I am very blessed in having the opportunity to express the beauty of God's creation through my photography. When I received my degree in fine art, I never thought it would lead to being a photographer. I was asked in 2005 to be a photographer's assistant for weddings, which I enjoyed photographing weddings and events for about 8 years. I enjoy doing portraits, such as family, pets, and senior portraits, plus nature, landscape photography and digital art. The combination of photography and art is my way of capturing the spirit of life, whether it be on a special occasion, of nature's beauty, or that unexpected moment in time. My work has been displayed at Tudor Hall,...
